Jamesburg

The crowd at the second annual Tonkery Boulevard Street Festival in Jamesburg is reflected in a mirror.

Incorporated in 1887, Jamesburg was named after James Buckelew, an influential man in the region who was known during the mid-1800s for his contributions to the community and was one of the largest dealers of mules in the United States. Buckelew lived in the 23-room Lakeview House, also known as the Buckelew Mansion.

Over the years, the borough has evolved into a quiet bedroom community with a quaint downtown business district.

Residents enjoy four public parks, most notably the expansive and serene Thompson Park, which stretches along the borough's border with Monroe.

The community takes pride in its schools and Monroe Township High School, and enjoys a renowned recreation department and library.
