New Brunswick - State TheaterJuly 30, 2003

State Theatre is the venue for many world-class events

As a foundation of cultural life in New Brunswick, the State Theatre stands as a testament to excellence in programming that is indicative of the institutions that call New Brunswick home. Joined by the George Street Playhouse, Zimmerli Museum of Art, Rutgers Mason Gross School for the Arts and the American Repertory Ballet Company, the State Theatre plays a critical role in the New Brunswick cultural climate.

This 1921 vaudeville proscenium theater found new life when a group of visionary leaders restored it to health between 1986 and 1988. As the pre-eminent performing arts center in central New Jersey, it has become synonymous with the economic and cultural revitalization in the downtown area and helps provide a higher quality of life for all residents in Middlesex County and the greater Middlesex County region.

Serving more than 300,000 patrons annually, the State Theatre presents a diversity of world-class events including international orchestras, Broadway musicals, dance ensembles, touring opera companies, popular music, world heritage music, classic films, children's productions and educational programs. As a leader in arts education, more than 28,000 people take part in arts education programs annually at the State Theatre, and nearly 23,000 students and teachers attended matinee performances last season.

This magnificent theater provides the perfect setting for the performing arts and attending any of the events offers a dynamic and uplifting experience every time. Easily accessible, the State Theatre is minutes away from the New Jersey Turnpike and Routes 1, 287, 27 and 18. With a downtown area that boasts a multitude of casual and fine dining options within walking distance of the theater, guests are sure to get a complete entertainment experience at the State Theatre. Additionally, the State Theatre is equipped with an assistive listening system for patrons who are hard of hearing, is wheelchair accessible within the orchestra seating area, and offers large print or audiotape format programs for many events. Group sales are available and discounts apply to performance packages of five or more events. Call the box office today at (732) 246-7469 or toll free at 877-STATE-11. Purchase tickets online at www.StateTheatreNJ.org.

As a nonprofit organization, the State Theatre gratefully receives contributions from foundations, corporations, and Members of the State Theatre family. Programs have been made possible in part through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
